Well, here it is 2007, and I'm back in Los Angeles. Not that you'd notice I was gone ... unless you've been lying in wait to kill me in my apartment. Sorry to have kept you waiting for so long, but you know friends and family and all that.
Something I saw while I was in Texas that I wish we had here: drive-through Starbucks. How many times have you gone into a Starbucks and had to wait behind either the loud-sigher-and-watch-checker or the loud-cell-phone-talker at the tail end of a very long line? If you live in LA, the answer is probably unable to be counted on ten fingers, so I'll hope you'll join me in wanting a drive-through Starbucks.
California is the home of car-culture. I've seen people whine and moan about walking a block when they'd much rather drive. We do everything in our cars here, partly because of the traffic, and partly because we're too scared to get out of them, so why not welcome more and more drive-through things? I'm personally waiting on drive-through boob jobs, dental visits, and trips to the CPA. If you build it, they will come.
I've seen one drive-through Starbucks here, in Venice. What I really miss are drive-through (or drive "near") ATMS. God, I'm lazy.

In vegas once, I asked a chapel (The Silver Bell) how many drive-thru weddings they actually performed, because yes - there was the drive-thru option.
I thought the answer would be none, or maybe, you know, 2. Drunk people. They said, 300. A year, I said?
A day, they said.
Gawd Bless Yamerica.
